Roundtable discussion “Digital Omnibus: What are the privacy issues?”

Hogan Lovells, 17 Av. Matignon, 75008 Paris (in-person only)

Wednesday 24 June 2026, from 9.00 am to 10.30 am

As part of the forthcoming publication of the report "Digital Omnibus: the challenge of simplification in the context of rights, consistency and methodology" produced as part of the "Omnibus Dialogues" programme, a two-day series of events that brought together European experts to discuss the issues raised by the European Commission’s "Digital Omnibus" proposal, Renaissance Numérique is organising a roundtable discussion on 24 June.

The Digital Omnibus proposal presented by the European Commission is part of an effort to simplify the European digital framework in order to boost competitiveness. Behind this objective, however, several major questions arise concerning the protection of personal data, the stability of the GDPR, and the balance between simplification and fundamental safeguards. Discussions focus in particular on the definition of personal data, consent rules, cookies, and the relationship between the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

This roundtable will provide an opportunity to examine the conditions under which this objective of simplifying and optimising the application of the digital regulatory framework can be pursued without undermining individuals’ rights or creating new uncertainties for civil society actors.
