Renaissance Numérique at the European Dialogues in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On September 20th, the final stage of the European Dialogues was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Serbian Republic in Banja Luka, marking the end of four days of exchanges between students, researchers, activists, and professionals from the Balkans and across Europe.
In this context, Aude Schoentgen, member of the board of directors of Renaissance Numérique, participated in the round table discussion “Innovation and employment: a key to young people’s confidence in the future? ” alongside Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić (Director of the Verlab Institute) and Branimir Jovanović (Economist at the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies), and Sanja Miovčić (Executive Director of the Impakt Investment Foundation), who moderated the discussion.
During this discussion on economic prospects and confidence drivers for the younger generations, Aude highlighted a number of points:
- Trust is a pillar that enables innovation to fully benefit employment and society, especially for younger generations. This trust is based on clear, predictable, and well-designed regulation, as well as transparent governance that encourages experimentation and opens up opportunities for new players.
- Rather than pitting innovation against regulation, we need to think about appropriate rules that support the responsible development of technologies while protecting citizens and markets. Examples of “regulatory sandboxes” and iterative democratic processes (such as the recent TikTok commission in France, with a continuum of issues, hearings, reports, and proposals) illustrate the ability to support innovation without stifling it.
- From a European and global perspective, Aude Schoentgen also emphasized the importance of responsible innovation, based on values and ethics, transparency, and concrete indicators, in order to respond to geopolitical challenges and ensure a secure, equitable, and trustworthy digital environment for the future.
This edition was organized in collaboration with the French Institute (Francuski institut u BiH) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is part of the #HorizonsPartagés program led by Expertise France.
