Economic and ethical perspectives on the future of AI in the EU

A high level conference organised by Confrontations Europe & Renaissance Numérique, in partnership with Microsoft

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has been at the centre of all discussions in recent months. The rapid growth of AI has raised many ethical (bias, discrimination, security, data protection, mass manipulation, etc.) and economic (AI systems deployed in critical infrastructures, displacement of jobs of highly skilled workers, etc.) questions and uncertainties. These concerns underline the need to objectify and regulate the subject. In this respect, non-binding texts have been adopted at the international level in recent years (OECD Framework for the Classification of AI Systems, OECD Principles on Artificial Intelligence, UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence) and the European Union is currently discussing a regulation establishing harmonised rules on artificial intelligence (the “AI Act”) and has proposed a Directive on adapting non contractual civil liability rules to AI.

In this context, Confrontations Europe and Renaissance Numérique, in partnership with Microsoft, are organising a conference focusing on two specific aspects: the possibilities created by the growing use of AI in the economy and the labour market, and the question of its liability and ethical dimension. This event will aim to bring about objective reflections and propose policy options to the European Union.
